Excellent examples of these mounds can be viewed
at the Emmet County Conservation Board's
Ringham Habitat North of
Estherville.
This location is accessed by river users from the West Fork of the Des Moines River just downstream from the A-17 Trailhead Access. Look for the sandbar on the West bank (right hand side as you go downstream) about 1/4 of a mile downstream from the A-17 access. Those that are not traveling the river can also enjoy this location by driving North out of Estherville on Highway 4 and turning West on County road A-17. Look to turn south on the first gravel road (360th avenue) West of the A-17 bridge/access. The Ringham Habitat sign and parking area will be on the left or East side. The trail from the parking area is well mowed and an easy walk for interested parties of all levels of fitness. Feel free to make your own trail by hiking to the south and look for the ancient village building site along the creek that runs to the east emptying into the river. Remember to be a good citizen and respect the land and ceremonial mounds you are visiting and please use the leave no trace principles!
